D-Link Network

The D-Link Green DGS-2208 Network Switch is an 8 port gigabit network switch that has been designed to save energy. It does this by automatically detecting which network ports are connected to an active system and then only providing power to the ports that are active. The 3 key benefits to end users through its cutting edge innovative eco-friendly technology are it reduces power consumption & creates less heat, an extended product life and reduced operating costs.

Just like computers do not require Internet access all the time, switches don’t utilize all ports at all times. When a computer or network equipment is shutdown or not in use, the switches often still remain on and continue to consume considerable amount of power. It is similar to when an electronic device is in the stand by mode, it still consumers power. With Green Ethernet technology, D-Link switches can automatically detect link status and reduce power usage of ports that are idle. dlink-dgw208-3

The Green Ethernet switches have the ability to analyze the length of any Ethernet cable connected to them and adjust the power usage accordingly. Shorter lengths require less power which means they save energy.dlink-dgs2208-2

To illustrate the savings, D-link provides an example where in a standard working day, computers are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and connected to the switch using 20 meter cables, the switch can save up to 40% power used for each system.

D-Link provide both 8 port DGS-2208 and 5 port DGS-2205 variations. The switches have a range of features, such as gigabit ethernet support, diagnostic LEDs for problem detection, Quality of Service (QoS) features, and really simple to use. The 8 port switch costs $46.99, and the 5 port switch costs $32.49.
