Reviews

Lutron seems to do the best job when it comes to dimmers. They usually work for years, with the occasional one that needs replacing.

All in all, can't complain - we have Lutron switches all over the house.

Good for the price, easy to install. Three issues you should know before buying: Unlike other dimmers by this company, I cannot dim the lights way way down to nearly off, which I like for night light use. Second: the switch, the part you actually touch to turn the light on and off, is narrower than you are used to, because the small slider is next to the switch and both must fit through the rectangle in the strike plate. So it doesn't feel as nice as other switches. Third, the wall plate is not included, so the picture is misleading, although this is revealed in product description. But I didn't realize, and now I have a white switch with the old beige strike plate, and wall plates do not ship directly from amazon. So not quite the bargain I expected.

When I got this I thought the dimmer slide would be too small but it has actually worked out well. It looks at first glance like a standard toggle light switch. The dimmer slide is not very noticable. Its not difficult to change the light intensity when needed and after that just toggle the light on or off. Excellent workmanship and materials and hooking it up was easy. All Lutron dimmers are of good quality, just choose the model and features you want. This is my second Lutron dimmer, the other one is a rotary dimmer. I wanted one that can be used with my existing faceplate and this one is fine. I would recommend Lutron dimmers.

A well made product that looks just like a switch, and retains the dimming setting. The analog slider responds rapidly, unlike the electronic models.

This is a good solid product that easily handles my 4 can style flood lights. (the dimmer I replaced got hot when the lights were all the way on.) The green LED is nice for finding the switch when the lights are off. They were HALF the price of what my local hardware store chain wanted to charge me.

The X10 WS467 Remote Control Light Dimmer Switch allows you the ease of controlling your lights right from the switch or from a remote control. This is a dimmer switch that is also paired with a remote control to make turning your lights on/off or dimming your lights as convenient as possible. The instillation required involves connecting two wires to your existing light switch unit. Its not that difficult and the product provides instructions on how to properly install the dimmer.
<more>
The X10 WS467 can only be used with incandescent light bulbs. This is because all X10 compatible 2-wire dimmer switches and modules rely on the conduction path through the incandescent bulb filament and will not work properly with other loads. Using a dimmer switch can help reduce your energy consumption and ultimately save you money. Using this type of eco-friendly lighting solutions is also a way for you to help the environment.

Reviews

I can really use this product & will possibly want to order more. Very happy with the time in which it arrived.

It was and is exactly what I wanted. Able to replace my old one with great results.

The X10 remote control light dimmer switch I ordered did not work correctly. The light, at full illumination with the X10 switch was much dimmer than the light used with a standard switch. Since it would cost me as much, or more, to pay to return the item for repair than I paid for it originally, I put a standard switch in and called it a day.

The idea is great. When I first put them in (3) they worked great then two of them started coming on by them selves. When I did a little checking on line it would seem this is quite common. So far I have only had problems with this type of switch, so I am thinking of changing them to the XPS3 which requires a neutral wire, but it seems to be a more heavy duty & reliable switch.

X10 WS467 Remote Control Light Dimmer Switch
What a great way to control the lights and small appliances all around the home, we have used the x10 system for twenty years and well are satisfied. The X10 light and appliance remote control(wireless) system works very well for controlling appliances i.e. a fan, coffee maker, etc and dimming or turning on/off lights on a timer or with a wireless remote control.

Any standard switch can be converted into this dimmer switch. Any room of your house could benefit from having a switch like this because you can be changed accordingly. The eco dim mode can be turned off if desired. For installation purposes it uses standard single pole wiring and mechanical air gap switch to disconnect load power.

Reviews

My husband installed new light switches for the ceiling fan he installed in the baby's room. That meant that the lamp hooked up to the wall switch was gone and so was the dimmer switch! I had to improvise and bought this dimmer. Works just as good as everyone said it would in the reviews. I'm quite pleased. It's so easy to use!!! I'd recommend it to anyone, especially new parents.

This doesn't seem to work with cfl lightbulbs, and I decided not to go back to the environmentally unfriendly bulbs just to have a dimmer. It would have been great in the nursery, so I am disappointed and will return them. The cord wasn't long enough for our situation either, but most houses have more plugs that ours does. Oh well.

Like others here, we were compelled to purchase these dimmer switches after the birth of our baby. She slept in our bedroom and I needed some light during middle-of-the-night feedings but even the lowest setting of our 3-way bulb lamp was bright enough to disturb my husband, and frankly it wasn't pleasant for me or baby either to go from nearly pitch black to a bright lamp. This dimmer switch allows you to get just the tiniest bit of light - just enough so you can see what you're doing, but not enough to disturb your spouse or wake your sleepy baby.

It does make a very slight buzzing sound but it's not enough to bother me.

I think I told my husband every night for two weeks how much I love these dimmer switches! They made my life a little bit better :)

I bought for my son's nursery and it works great. We have it on a very low setting all night long, sometimes will go out when the power supply drops e.g. when A/C kicks in, but that's not a big deal. Would definitely recommend it.

I own many of these dimmers and they all work great, not one has failed me yet. Since I just bought another lamp I needed a new dimmer for it. The others I have are white or black, which is all that was offered at the time. Now I see Lutron has come out with new colors...brown and dark brown. I liked that, softer colors should blend in nicely with wood furniture. But that's not the case. The Brown is so dark it's almost black. I can't imagine what the dark brown looks like. I ordered two packages so I'd have an extra on hand and both are this same blackish-brown color. Double checked the item # to make sure there wasn't a mistake and it's correct. I wonder if there was a mixup in packaging and Amazon is helping Lutron unload these factory rejects? If Lutron intends it to be this dark of a brown then why did they even bother. If you're thinking of replacing another color for the brown it's not worth the effort. Unless you put one of their black dimmers next to it you would never know this wasn't black. And now I have another dimmer that sticks out like a sore thumb on my table.

5 stars for the product - 1 star for the color = 3 stars overall.

Reviews

I purchased two of these -- in the kitchen where I have one (CFL) fixture it works great. Downstairs in the basement I have 5 CFL fixtures and on automatic the lights buzz when on, and flicker when the motion sensor would have them off. I got a GE motion sensing switch too, which exhibits the exact same behavior downstairs. (The 'on' and 'off' positions work great.) I would love if anyone could recommend a motion sensing switch likely to work with larger clusters of CFL bulbs.

Use it in the bathroom for a single overhead light, with the vanity light on a switch. Sensitivity and reaction time is great (although not adjustable). Being able to adjust it to not come on based on ambient light is also a great feature. Fixed settings for timer (e.g. 1min, 5min, etc.) would be nice if you could adjust for whatever you wanted. Overall though, does exactly what I want and works as described. Continuation of my good experiences with Heath Zenith products.

I installed one in the garage with 4 fluorescent bulbs, lots of flickering. Moved it to be used with incandescent and it works fine. I'm just sad it didn't work well in the garage.

I love this thing, easy to install, easy to use. The main resason I got this was my child would leave the lights on ALL THE TIME. With this they go on by themself they go off by themself. You can adjust when they go on (due to outside light), and how long they should stay on. They do work with energy saver bulbs. I have had these installed for about 30 days and I would recommend them.

There are multiple issues with this switch.

1.) Does not work with many CFL setups. The amazon description indicates it works with "up to 400W" of fluorescent lights. If you read the fine print in the manual that comes with the switch, it only works with rapid start ballasts and needs a minimum of 60W of fluorescent lights to work correctly. I tried the unit with a single 26W CFL and when the switch is in "auto" mode, the light continuously flickers on and off even when there is no motion and it is supposed to be off.

2.) The "time on" feature doesn't work right. The instructions tell you to turn the "time" screw until it snaps into place at test, 1, 5, 10, or 20 minutes. The screw does not snap at all. I turned it to 5, and the light still went off after about 15s. I turned it to 20 - same thing. In fact you can just keep rotating it indefinitely. Eventually, by playing around with it for a few minutes I got the delay to increase up to several minutes, but I'm not sure why or how. I thought maybe my unit was just defective, but I bought two (from two different stores) and both did the same thing.

3.) If you switch it too quickly between on/off/auto modes, you can get it hung in an auto mode where it just flashes the light on and off. I was able to replicate this problem on both switches that I bought.

4.) The auto mode never really turns the electricity off. You can tell, because if you throw in an LED light, when the auto mode goes to turn the light off, it just dims. So you are basically wasting a small amount of electricity even when the auto mode turns the lights "off."

5.) The "off" setting doesn't turn the electricity off either! This seems like it could be a safety hazard. Again, if you throw in an LED light and turn the switch to "OFF," the light dims slightly more than when the auto function turns it "off," but still doesn't turn off. Believe it or not, even when you turn this switch to "off" you are wasting electricity.

6.) Obviously, based on #4, and #5, this unit will not work with LED lighting.

Reviews

The sensor I purchased works perfectly and the price is great. The only negative thing I can say is that I wish they had more options to shorten the distance for when it turns on the lights. However, it saves me from trying to feel my way around in a dark entrance hallway and I LOVE that!!!

I too bought this switch for laundry room light. It utterly failed to operate my 2 4' fixtures. When hooked up, my lights rapidly blinked, like an oldtime movie projector.

The package states that it will operate fluorescent bulbs min 30 W - Max 400 W. I figure that my fixtures total about 70 W, well with in the working parameters. So I went to my local Hardware store and found another brand, Cooper I believe. The unit itself appeared be identical to these GE switches. And the package stated similar min and max Watts for various devices (Incandescent, Fluorescent, ect). But with one additional warning. The cooper package also stated that it did not work with Electronic ballasts, only magnetic.

I don't know if you can even buy magnetic ballasts anymore!!!

Point is, I suspect that these GE switches also will only work on magnetic ballasts as I KNOW my fixtures are electronic. But I could be wrong. They might not work on ANY fluorescent fixtures.

So if you want to use this for fluorescent fixtures . . . DON'T BOTHER WITH THESE.

***NOTICE***

I just now wired it up only to be disappointed. Googling the issue led me here, so I'll share my experience.

The product specifically states that it is compatible with rapid start fluorescent lamps; however, when in auto mode, the fluorescent lights will only flicker. The fluorescent lights will stay on when placed in "on" mode, but that defeats the purpose of the product. The best suited locations for this device are in laundry rooms and/or garages. Generally you're using compact fluorescent or rapid start fluorescent lighting in those areas.

The packaging clearly misleads the consumer during purchase; therefore, this product is garbage.

***STAY AWAY***

Purchased mine at Costco, and my Flourescent lights ups, but very dim. It says it good for 500 watts, my two Flo lights are 30 watts max. Wasted an hour of my time installing and now they have to go back to Costco. Does not operate as stated on the package.

Yes it does require some adjustment while setting it up,as per the directions, but if you do it correctly it works just fine.

Cutting down on your homes energy consumption can save you money. In busy households it is often common to have lights that are left on even when they are not being used. Doing so uses energy which translates into a higher energy bill. By using a motion sensing light you can eliminate lights being left on and you will reduce the energy consumed in your home. Using a motion activated switch also adds a bit of convenience when your entering a dark room such as a basement or attic. There are even solar powered motion activated lights that will even use less energy.

Editor's Pick: The First Alert PIR720RN Motion Sensing Light Socket can change any regular light socket into a motion sensing light. Unlike ordinary motion lights there is no expensive installation with the First Alert PIR720RN. It is able to operate in pitch black or in daylight and is ideal for laundry rooms, garages, basements or closets. It works by sensing motion up to twelve feet away when installed at an eight foot height.

The Smarthome Screw-in Motion Sensing Light Adapter allows you to convert any standard light bulb into a motion sensing light. With this item there is no tricky installation or wiring required. Instead all you do is screw the adapter into an existing socket and the light will automatically turn on once it senses motion. This adapter is ideal for closets, basements, garages, or even attics.

One of the easiest ways to reduce your energy bill is to turn off the lights when they are not in use. Sometimes this simple task can be not so simple, especially when you have a busy household. The Black & Decker SW100 Lights Out Autoswitch makes the job easier for you because it has a motion activated sensor that automatically turns your lights on and off for you. Its motion activated sensor automatically turns lights on or off 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes after you leave the room based on the setting you have chosen.

The Solar Powered Motion Activated Halogen Floodlight by MAXSA is a great way to light up the outdoors without tricky installation because you don't need to run a power line. This is a solar powered motion activated security light. It works by detecting motion up to 35 feet away the light automatically turns on. The light can be activated up to 150 times within 60 seconds and is ideal for driveways and paths.

Using an autoswitch for your lights like the Black & Decker SW100 Lights Out Autoswitch can save you money. One of the easiest ways to reduce your energy bill is to turn off the lights when they are not in use. Sometimes this simple task can be not so simple, especially when you have a busy household. The SW100 makes the job easier for you because it has a motion activated sensor that automatically turns your lights on and off for you. Its motion activated sensor automatically turns lights on or off 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes after you leave the room based on the setting you have chosen. All you have to do is set the timer once and then it is effortless.
<more>
There is no tricky installation required and it is nearly maintenance free except for changing the batteries from time to time. All you do is mount it over any standard household light switch and choose the setting you desire. It requires three AA batteries which are not included. This simple motion sensing light switch can help your household be more environmentally friendly by reducing your energy consumption. Less energy consumption means keeping more money in your pocket.
