Reviews

I purchased 36 flood lamp bulbs for one of my offices. 14 bulbs failed within 3 weeks. The remaining bulbs lost their light quality within a few weeks, and I was forced to replace them. Neither the manufacturer nor Amazon were willing to refund my money. Under no circumstance do I suggest anyone either purchase these bulbs or deal with this seller!

I have to agree with those who've found the bulb does not live up to the glowing, green promises of a long-lived economical bulb. I bought two at COSTCO and got a letter from COSTCO a month or so later warning that the manufacturer had changed its guarantee about hours of use. [My COSTCO doesn't have them any longer] As I'd already tossed my receipt and the bulbs seemed to be working for me, I decided to keep them. One is actually still working more than 6 months later over my stairs where it's on about 5 hours a night. The other one did what others have complained about - half the LEDs started flashing, making it impossible to use. I didn't keep it in long enough to see how long before it went dead.

I bought 1 to test since a different type w/o the protective outer cover caused moisture from teh kitchen & bathroom to short out 2 bulbs.
it has worked beautifully thus I bought another one. It may be age or something else but both bulbs are different lumination tones. The first one is sort of an amber like off white & the new one is ice lightening white.
Not quite sure what exactly to make of that but I must say that these suckers do in fact work.
I just got 2 more in the mail for the kitchen & can't wait to screw them in!
The electric bill has dropped so much that it wouldn't surprise me if it costs the electric company more money to process & send the monthly bill in teh mail than the amount of money they actually get from me. Lol!!!

This bulb burned out very quickly in a few days. I returned it for a refund.

I have purchased five of these for a floor lamp If the floor lamp only had one lightbulb socket i would be in the dark. with the five going it is subtle but still bright enough. I would have to hold off until i am able to recommend this bulb to anyone. I bot them because i am a gadget-o-haulic :) LED lightbulbs do have a nice glow to them I do like them better than the CFL bulbs in the bathroom. the technology needs a bit more R&D before they can be main stream. of the five i purchased a few months ago two have gone out. it was a fireworks spectacular when they did start to burn out, over two or three days. they flashed like a strobe light and now two of the five socket in the floor lamp are dark, the light from the remaining three is not that bad, but it is dim and i have to get some replacements. the replacements will still be LEDs but probably with 36 LEDs or something because i still need to be cautious of my power consumption and the temperature of the actual bulbs so they don't cause a heat fire.

Reviews

I've been eyeing these for probably a year from now, finally picked one up locally. Yes, the pricing still makes one hesitate, but the color of the light really impresses me. Beam is indeed narrow, with a 'fuzzy' edge or falloff. I'll be considering more like this.

This is the first LED buld I ever saw on the market. It's innovative, and creates a natural, warm color. It's also dimmable. It isn't a bad choice at all. But after discovering the 7 Watt Philips Ambient LED R20 (NR-63) Light Bulb Cool White 4200K, I am convinced that the Philips is the brighter bulb, and therefore, the better choice.

Everyone has been on the lookout for these LED lights for years, but they still need tons of work. I am only giving two stars just because the light is actually bright and usable as compared to similar LED replacement lamps. The first reason for taking off stars is the exorbitant price. A $4 compact fluorescent provides a more spread light pattern and only a slightly smaller lifespan. The problem with this LED bulb is the optical system for the three LED's in this bulb. Each LED provides a very direct, focussed light pattern that is not able to light up all of the corners of your room. Additionally, I have seen some LED light trade industry articles showing that costs are going to be reduced some 80% by the year 2013. Wait until then for better designed optic dispersion and a target cost of $8 and this will bump the review up to 5 stars.

First the good news. This is one of the first really practical LED lights for home use. It uses high power LEDs instead of a bunch of little LEDs. The three LEDs each have their own optics, making for a nice beam shape, tighter than a flood but not quite a spot. The color quality is excellent. I won't use a CF bulb in the kitchen because of what the color does to my food, but I've got this one over the sink and it's great.

The problems with this bulb are, first, it's too expensive. Not in comparison to other LED lights, but compared to CF or halogen, or even to the price of the components. Within a couple of years you'll be able to buy these for under $10 so unless you're an early adopter, wait.

Second, it's not as efficient as it should be. At 28 lumens per watt it's twice as good as a halogen, but only half as good as a CF. That's puzzling because the LED emitters are much more efficient than this. I suspect GE cheaped out on the electronics.

Finally, it's not as bright as it should be. Most PAR20 bulbs, at least around here, are rated at 570 lumens / 50 watts. Replace this with a 200 lumen bulb with a narrower beam and you will be disappointed.

LEDs are on the brink of replacing tungsten and CF, but are not quite there yet. Wait a year or two, and you'll be able to get a LED PAR20 that puts out 570 lumens, consumes 10 watts, and costs $10. I hope.

I picked up the 10 watt version at walmart; i was very surprised, especially compared to the 2.5 watt crane LED i have (the crane is very dim). this is in the category of 'usable light bulbs', it is very directional though. for me, the real question isnt 'does it work', because it seems to replace my 26 watt cfl's ok (it is not as bright as the cfl), but i want to know if it'll really put out the advertised life span.

Reviews

This LED light bulb preformed below expectations. This bulb uses 3 Watts of electricity, but puts out less luminosity than 1.3 Watt LED light bulbs costing about one third the price. I would not recommend buying this LED light bulb. lesson learned. Not all LED light bulbs are created equal.

I'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. This light is BRIGHT! I have a breezeway between the garage and house where the vast majority of people enter. I wanted a light I could keep on all the time for guests and myself (trying to put your key in the hole in total darkness really sucks).

So, for 3 watts, I figured I could keep it on 24/7 without much impact. I wanted something fairly dim that would just allow me to see the door & lock. This light is almost too bright and illuminates all of the breezeway and some of the driveway.

I wouldn't use it for task lighting (too dim) or a night light (too bright); but as an entryway light, it's superb.

I like this bulb as a "bright night-light". I think it is good if that's what you want and you are fine with the white bluish colored light. If you are expecting greater light output or warm white light, then you will be disappointed.

On another plus, the spread/distribution of the light is better (more omni-directional) than typical for LED bulbs.

This bulb is clearly not a 3Watts bulb as I have an LED bulb from another manufacturer that is rated at the same 3Watts that is so much brighter.

This bulb is dimmer than a 15 watt incandescent bulb. I did not see any TV interference, although the box says it could happen. However, this bulb is just too weak for any place I might use it. The bulb comes in a nicely printed box. This is unusual as most led bulbs purchased through the internet have plain white boxes with very little writing on them. The price of this bulb seems to have varied widely from time to time and place to place in the last 2 months, up to june 8, 2010.

Reviews

Transaction Details:
Paid $6.99, 2 day shipping was free with Amazon Prime (which I got a year free by registering as a student).

The Juicy Details:
I live in South Florida (Miami/ Ft Lauderdale area) and the cheapest you can regularly find these bulbs is about $10.00 for a pack of 5 at Walgreens. I've seen a 6 pack at WalMart for $11.88 and of course online for a little less than $10.00 (before the shipping charges). None of these prices include the taxes (6-7% depending whether you get them in Miami or Ft Lauderdale). A regular/old fashioned/ traditional/ incandescent bulb of 60w costs between $0.80-$1.00 each (before taxes)? SOOO... when you do the math, pricewise this 8 pack for $6.99 is a definite winner.

All scientific debate aside: These are more durable, produce a better quality of light, and are more efficient than the "regular/ old fashioned" bulbs. Why?

1.) Flick a traditional bulb nice and hard, now assuming that the actual glass hasn't buckled; exploding shards of glass everywhere, you'll probably now hear a slight rattling as the filament that produces the light is either completely broken off or is severely weakened such that it could break at anytime- leaving you a dead bulb. Same experiment on a CFL bulb (outside of course) and not only does the glass feel more resilient it is VERY unlikely that the bulb itself shatters, further because of the basic construct of a CFL bulb there's no rattling (no filament)-> no damage ->no loss of ability to produce light. 1:0 (CFL vs Incandescent)

2.) Traditional bulbs (by nature) have a very intense illumination power, but that intensity isn't uniform. Without getting into the particle physics, think of a lamp on a side table in your living room with a traditional 60w bulb... got the image?... now imagine looking at that lamp without a lamp shade... pretty painful isn't it? Now think of you walking into the bathroom when you wake up at 5.30am for class/work and the sky is just getting purple... now you flip on the light and a traditional bulb turns on... first thing? CLOSE YOUR EYES, wince, whatever you normally do to cover your eyes. Now imagine both scenarios with CFL bulbs... compared with the first example the light isn't as focused on one tiny point of super intensity (the filament), it's spread out over the entire glass bulb (coil) meaning there's only minor discomfort at having a bright light in your vision. Compared with the second example the intensity is also not as bad because there's a warm up period where the "light" is spreading out through the entire bulb (coil), meaning that wouldn't have to close your eyes, or wince nearly as much because the light intensity increases slowly over time giving your eyes time to adjust. Not only is this more comfortable for you but it's way healthier on your eyes, which are your ONLY natural tools to perceive how good the quality of light really is. 2:0 (CFL vs incandescent)

3.) Incandescent bulbs "may be slightly brighter", but when they are using 60 watts compared to the 13 watts that the CFL equivalents use- words like "may be" and "slightly" just don't cut it for me. CFL's efficiency in a small part is because they are less fragile (as I mentioned before), and less delicate because the part that actually emits the light is spread out along the entire length of the bulb coil instead of being like a lightly woven thread of metal hanging from a few small hooks. Think of it like this- is it more efficient to push a door open with the tip of a pen or with the palm of your hand? If you were using the same force both times, then you could easily push the door open with your palm and not even budge the door with the pen tip. While the force you are pushing that pen into the door with is greater at its point than at any specific point on the palm of your hand, you aren't getting much done with that door- you'd need more force to accomplish opening the door, which is less efficient. In the same way, incandescent bulbs use more electricity to "push" light from a small concentrated point versus a CFL bulb that "pushes" light from a larger spread out surface- the result? You get nearly the same about of light for 21.67% of the electricity a traditional incandescent bulb uses (13w/60w= 0.21666...7), AND it takes a lot longer for the CFL bulb to "burn out"- even if it doesn't last 5-10 years like some of you expect it to based off of optimistic advertising (oops, is this really the first time you've heard of something that doesn't work EXACTLY as it says in an ad/textbook/fairytale?). 3:0 (CFL vs incandescent)

Why is any of this important? WELL, in my case I travel to medical school in the Caribbean and while some of the houses for rent are gorgeous, the island is small and in the middle of nowhere (I assume they thought this would give us students less distractions) and as such- many "newer technologies" are difficult/ ridiculously expensive to come by because they are not cost effective for the average citizen (the average Grendian citizen doesn't make nearly as much as the average US citizen). So it means that I have to buy CFL bulbs here and bring them with me to the island, as I am there for 4-5 months at a time, I need to bring a lot of things-> I don't have the space to pack more delicate lightbulbs to keep them from being damaged beyond repair, they need to be more sturdy to survive the trip. Why bring lightbulbs at all then? A/C is still a luxury in many MANY places and it drives the electricity bill to sky rocket (which is expensive naturally). Now maybe some of you come from colder climates where you rarely use A/C so this won't apply to you, but I'm from a place where the average temp is 87-97 degrees everyday with LOTS of humidity; so am used to running my A/C (just not used to paying a $400.00/month electric bill for doing so).

Anyway, if a CFL bulb is only using 21.67% of the electricity of a regular incandescent bulb and I have 3 wall lights in my bedroom alone then not only do they use less electricity but they also produce less heat which means less cooling work for the A/C, and if the CFL bulbs cost the same (in this case they cost less) as the regular ones-> I SAVE MONEY IN THREE WAYS. Even if the savings is only a few dollars, medical school last term cost me $35,000.00+ (that was only for 1 term, there are 12+ terms in the 4 years of medical school), so right now I have NO SHAME in wanting to save a few dollars here and there anyway I can- because it all adds up. Quality wise, I wake up at 5.30-6am to start class at 7.30am and I'm in class/lab under normal florescent lighting until about 5pm (with 1 hour break and a few 10 minute breaks here and there), then I either go home or go to the library- in either location I'm going to be studying/reading a textbook until I go to sleep at 1-1.30am. Your ability to focus your eyes declines as you get older (duh), this decline is sped up by straining your eyes too much (duh again), incandescent bulbs by nature have a higher risk of being too intense-> more eye strain -> your eyesight getting worse faster (not to mention other things like headaches, etc). So by using CFL I'm helping to SAVE MY EYES from declining faster than they would otherwise. The difference in the amount of light produced from an incandescent bulb vs a CFL bulb is hardly noticeable and therefore it doesn't affect my decision to buy a CFL bulb of the same price (or cheaper) over a traditional incandescent bulb.

BONUS... if the research data really support the claim that "one CFL bulb over its lifetime will prevent 1 ton of carbon dioxide [CO2] from being released into the air" (which is thought to contribute strongly to global warming) I am helping to SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT. The population of US is almost 310 million people, if these CFL bulbs let's say only last 1 full year and every person only used 1 CFL light bulb as their only light source for the entire year- that means that we are preventing 310 million tons of CO2 from being released. Of course no one only uses a single light as their only source, so realistically let's assume you've got 6 to 9 light bulbs in the house at any given time, then we could save 2 to 3 BILLION TONS of CO2 from being released into the air. Now the world population is almost 7 billion people, imagine what we could all do.

Ok that was a long enough diatribe about why I think CFL is better than incandescent and why this was a great product to purchase, hope I helped your decisions one way or another.

These bulbs showed up very quickly, well packaged, none broken. This is an amazing deal on bulbs of this type...way cheaper than you could get them at any store I know of. I ordered four packages of eight so I'd get free shipping. It will take me forever to use them, but come on...a lifetime supply of fluorescent bulbs for a little over $25 is a no brainer.

Did I mention they were cheap? Just under a buck a piece. They seem to fire up rather quickly, and don't seem to need the "warm up" time that some CFL bulbs do. 3k-ish light temperature...typical budget bulbs that appear fairly yellowish but (should) last for several years and cut costs over incandescent bulbs.

These bulbs cast a rather yellowish light, but they are good bulbs. Next time I will order the white light bulbs, but I still like these.

I thought it was a great deal when I ordered, then I noticed that the price dropped more than 30% in a few days. I have no option but to order more. These are 13 watt CFC, good for small places where a bright light is not that important.

Reviews

Denny And Kathy's Superstore (the Amazon vendor that sold me this product) appears to be a drop-shipper. That is, they appear to carry no inventory. My order was billed to my bank account on May 5th with an "Electronic Shipping Info Received, May 05, 2010". The problem became obvious when USPS showed no further action for 13 days. The product was delivered on May 18th.

This order took 2 weeks to arrive from the day it supposedly shipped, but, I also found that the vendor was very slow in answering email inquiries - and gave very short and vague responses. I attempted to call their business number (during their posted business hours) and received a recording with a lot of background noise that sounded like a television playing and other household sounds; nobody answered - just a recording that asked me to leave a message.

Though the product arrived in good condition and was exactly as I expected, I feel that the vendor is operating from their kitchen table and is not able to make delivery in a timely manner.

I'm giving the product 5 stars, but, the vendor is far below average in many ways.

This lights functions very well, as have all the GE Instant-Ons I've ever purchased, but it gives off a super-white hue that's not at all what I was expecting. I imagine that's what the "Sunlight" in the packaging refers to. I ended up not using it because it's a really harsh light that gives the effect of an industrial setting. All of the other GE instant-on cfl's I've purchased give off a much softer light that's more typical of what you'd expect in a home setting. There's nothing wrong with this product if you're looking for that kind of light, but if you're expecting a typical, softer hue, know that "Sunshine" means unusually bright, harsh white light.

I don't know what to add other than these are the first CFL bulbs that can properly be used for outdoor lighting without seeming anemic.

I purchased several of these bulbs to replace 100 watt incandescent bulbs in my house. I must say that I've been very pleased. Not only do they give just about the same amount of light, but they go on immediately. Other "normal" non instant fluorescent bulbs (like those from IKEA) are NOT instant on, and you'll be waiting at least a full second after you switch a lightswitch before the light shows up. This may not seem like a long time, but when you flip a switch you'll notice it EVERY time.

Do yourself a favor and buy either the instant on versions, or the instant on (GE or Sylvania) "mini" versions. These are smaller, and give off about 90% of the same light -perfect for cramped places (like a basement with a low ceiling) or small lamps. I have been very happy with both instant on versions -and you'll save 74% of your electricity cost over a regular 100 watt incandescent bulb. A real bargain over time. Highly recommended.

I've replaced about a dozen bulbs around my house with these. Not only are they only about a quarter the wattage of the incandescent bulbs they've replaced, but the quality of the light is far closer to natural sunlight. The yellow/red skew of standard incancesdents is dramatically reduced -- these are much closer to the color of natural light. The only negative I have is price, but they are a lot cheaper at other locations...

Reviews

I recently went through the entire house and replaced all interior bulbs with these "Super Savers" BIG MISTAKE! I am going back and replacing the burned out ones more often than conventional incandescent bulbs. The only thing it is maybe saving on is trips to the store to buy more bulbs as I had a few extra on hand. Sylvania can put these where the sun doesn't shine. I hate 'em!! Will never buy these again!

I did not get a chance to use the bulbs because I left them in the blister pack and returned them. Whoever packed the box put it in a box with only one wrap of bubble wrap, and a lot of loose space in the box. One bulb was broken. I read other reviews that said the same thing. Lately, orders from Amazon have not been packed very well. I am very disappointed.

I gave it a "four" review because it is as advertised. I find the light to be a little yellow, but, I am apparantly in the minority on this. I may buy a whiter-bluer light next time.

About a week ago I decided to finally give a CFL a try. After all, we will soon no longer be allowed to purchase incandescent bulbs. I went to the store and picked one out (why buy a 6-pack if I don't know if I'll like it). It was a Sylvania 23-watt bulb that was claimed to last 10,000 hours and produce the same number of lumens as a standard 100-watt light bulb. I carefully thought this through--in my application it would be burning 7 hours a day and would save about 1 penny per hour in electricity. This meant that the $5.00 (plus tax) bulb need last fewer than 600 hours to pay for itself. Free light bulbs! Why is legislation required to force people to save money? It made no sense to me. The only drawback I could see was that it contained mercury--about four milligrams (although in government documents this four milligrams magically becomes 0.6 mg when the bulb is landfilled).

When I arrived home from the store that evening I marked the date on the base of the bulb (1/4/10) and smugly replaced the 75-watt bulb with the new, money-saving one. When it finally burned out (in about four years) I would be able to congratulate myself on how much money I had saved. When I turned the bulb on it took a second to light up (not bad) and had a very harsh white light (not good--but I can live with it).

On the morning of January 8th, 2010, I arose at my usual hour (4 AM) and turned on the light. For some reason it only gave half of its usual illumination. It was a cold morning (60 degrees in the bedroom); perhaps it simply needed to warm up. Minutes later, with a popping noise, it expired. The bulb had given 24 hours of service. Is this is why they haven't caught on?

These bulbs work great and last a long time. The only negative is they don't seem to make it through shipping too well; they are fragile. I had to order twice due to bulb breakage. The price is right and you're saving energy at the same time. I've changed all my incandescents to flourescents.

Reviews

Very bright light similar to an incandescent, small & compact size for the light output it provides. Too bright for my living room but perfect for overhead fixtures where you need a lot of light (kitchen/bathroom). Recommended!

We've used compact fluorescent bulbs all over the house for years. They save money on the electric bill, and they save time. They last much longer than incandescent bulbs, so we don't have to replace them nearly as often. In addition, they exude far less heat, which decreases the need for air conditioning in the summer.

When I opened the sixpack box of CFL's, which was shipped by Amazon together with a paperback book in the same box (Free Super Saver shipping!), I discovered that two of the six 23 watt bulbs had arrived broken. I decided not to return the entire box but to consider it a lesson learned since I had only lost a few dollars on the deal. Order at your own risk.

I had originally bought this pack of 6 hoping to replace the recessed lighting in my new kitchen. Read prior reviews saying that 23 watt would not be bright enough, even though this is generating an equivalent of 100 watts. I have four recessed spots in kitchen, and after installing, figured they were way too bright. When I say TOO bright, they were eye-piercing bright. So I instead got the 15 watt ones instead, and they were more than enough. Unless, you are showcasing something inside or are using it outside on the patio, the 13 watt or 15 watt CFLS should be more than enough.

Bought these 23-Watt and also the 20-Watt for several fixtures. The compact size is perfect and they are very bright, which is what we needed. The 14-Watt bulbs you see at all the stores don't always provide enough light, but these do and they are the same size.

Also, the environmentally responsible packaging makes these a much better "green" purchase.

Reviews

This is a great product. I wasn't sure I would like it so I puschased only the two bulb package and we are completely satisfied. If they go on sale again I will purchase more. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a 3-way moneysaver. I hope Amazon has more soon. Everything I have purchased from Amazon has been great. I trust Amazon products.

They don't work with light dimmers which we have in all rooms. Also don't work with three way lamps. Useless!!

Have had to take back two of these bulbs -- the first one made a popping sound a few days after placement and went out on all three settings, the other only worked on the middle setting. I purchased these at Target, but will go to Home Depot to look for a better option.

BIG BULB!
This one will last me more than the 6 years they say it will last..Can't use it, yet.
The bulb is too big, for the harp on the lamp.
It's going to have to wait, until after the holidays, for me to get a new harp.

We love the light from this bulb. As with all of these energy efficient bulbs you need to wait a small amount of time for the true level of light to be achieved and that is the case here with each of the three levels of light. You do not need to wait for each level and can easily just switch to the highest level immediately and then it comes up to the brightest for that level in just a quick amount of time. I'm so used to it now that I barely notice the warm up period but I definitely enjoy the brightness (just exactly as bright, or a little brighter, than our old 50/100/150 bulbs) and I will be enjoying the benefits of a lower electricity bill for years to come. Highly recommend! We are back now to buy a couple more so all the three way lamps in the house will be energy efficient.

P.S., as far as the size of the bulb, yes, these energy efficient bulbs are all slightly larger than normal bulbs. However, I have not replaced any lamp harps and have had not trouble fitting the bulbs into our lamps.
