Samsung has launched their first ever solar powered cell phone. Unfortunately, as of right now there are now plans to market the phone in the United States, but its still a cool device and because it runs on solar power it is an energy saving gadget. The phone is being released in India, Europe, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, and Latin American markets.

The Samsung Crest E1107 is a dual band phone that works on GSM networks. The phone was not only designed for its eco friendly contribution to the environment, it was also designed for afford ability. According to Unwired View, there are reports that the Crest is already available in India at the price of $59.

This cell phone is equipped with some of the typical features we find on most cell phones today such as: FM radio, MP3 ring tones and embedded games. There is also a Mobile Tracker feature that notifies the user when the SIM card needs to be changed. There is no mention of a E911 feature that U.S. phones are required to have which is what makes it possible for 911 services to locate the phone in an emergency. This could be the reason it is not being launched in the U.S. at this time. There is also a fake call feature that can be used as a quick get away when you are in an unwanted social situation.

The back of the phone is embedded with solar panels that charge the 800mAh battery. The battery gives 5 to 10 minutes of talk time for each hour of sunlight it receives. The idea of a solar powered phone is cool, but this it not much talk time for one hour of charge. The Crest Solar features a 1.52-inch, 128 x 128 pixel CSTN display and comes with 40 polyphonic ringtones preloaded. It measures 105.2mm x 44.2mm x 16.4mm (4.1in x 1.7in x .6in).
