The GlobeTrotter Kit–A Solar Powered Charger for People on the Go

by Rob on April 4, 2008

The GlobeTrotter Kit is the ultimate in solar powered charges for people on the go. It includes the Freeloader, which we've showcased on Energy Saving Gadgets before, and it includes the Supercharger, which is a great way to charge the Freeloader while your hiking or biking (see pictures below).

Freeloader is a portable charging system that can power any hand held device anywhere, anytime. Freeloader takes power from its solar panels, the supplied Supercharger or via its charge cable that plugs into a computers’ USB. Once charged, Freeloader’s internal battery can power an iPod for 18 hours, a mobile phone for 44 hours, PSP for 2.5 hours a PDA for 22 hours and much much more. According to Solar Technology, the maker of the Freeloader and GlobeTrotter Kit, the Freeloader has had its "electronics re-configured to make it compatible with the new iPhone, iTouch, iPod Classic and all earlier iPods. The kit also now comes with an adaptor to power most iPod applications."

This is a great item. I could just think that to have this and keep a GPS alive for a week or to keep a cell phone alive (for the addicted) would be great. I know exactly who needs on… Xmas.

Wow. Crazy how technology has come far enough to create one of these. How convenient- traveling solar power! I only wonder if it’s cost friendly.
