Reviews
Although it shakes the desk a bit, this is a good unit. I've got a WiFi router, and plugged the printer into it. I was able to scan to my laptop across the room. I don't recommend the WiFi enabled unit as it's more expensive. Just plug the printer into your router and away you go. The unit may come with a short CAT cable; I don't remember. Ask or find out before you purchase. The software install takes forever. No word yet if I can install the scanner software on my wife's laptop without installing the whole thing. Ink cartridges can be pricey. I haven't tried remanufactured cartridges - yet.
Let me start out by saying i got this at Best Buy for a lot less then i could get it at Amazon. I paid less then $100 for it. I didn't get the wireless for $70 more then the this and had the same features as that one did, just needed to hook it up to the router and away we went it comes with software to help you do everything the printer/scanner/fax can do for windows XP and up and Mac. The one thing that has won me over to this is that i just printed a photo quality picture at highest resolution and it came out FAST and beautiful. I did it on landscape mode as one of the reviewer before me said it doesn't work on landscape and i had no problem with it. the drawback is it is a bit nowser then the HP inkjet i replaced. but i don't print while i am asleep so it really won't bother me. this really is a great printer.
I have used about 10 printers from 10 years ago. This year, I choose this printer not only because speed but also quality after searching a lot printers. I strongly recomment this printer to everyone.
I bought this HP Officejet 6500 all-in-one for myself when moving to an apartment from a dorm room, and in the fifteen months or so in my possession there have been no problems at all. The quality of printouts is superb, ink consumption good, and there are plenty of very convenient features for both the fax and scanner built in. The design is sleek and would look good no matter where it is placed, and it absolutely looks much more expensive than it actually is. Some complain that it makes too much noise, but this has not been a problem for me. It makes noise yes, but just like every other printer in the world. If there is a sleeping baby on top of the printer that you do not want to wake up, then do not print, otherwise the noise level is absolutely acceptable. I do extremely extensive product researching and comparing prior to making any purchase like this, and the 6500 all-in-one, I am quite glad to say, has never let me down.
I'm an allergy sufferer. I had a black-and-white laser printer. When I read that laser printers can put off irritating fumes, I ditched my laser printer for an office ink jet to meet my black-and-white printing needs. You won't believe how excited I was to see HP's 920XL black-ink cartridge that printed 1200 pages at an affordable price. I quickly asked what printer would go with this cartridge, and the salesperson told me the cheapest option was a HP OfficeJet 6500. So I bought the cheapest printer to go with the cheapest black-ink cartridge. Smooth sailing, right? Unfortunately, even though I saved a custom "gray scale" setting in the printer drivers, this printer still drained the color cartridges when printing in gray scale or black-and-white. Pretty soon, the only cartridge with ink in it was my high-capacity black cartridge. I was able to print the full capacity of my first 920XL black-ink cartridge. With all color cartridges empty, I swapped in a new 920XL black-ink cartridge. It printed about 300 pages and then KABOOM! The printer stopped printing. No explanation. It acted like it was printing but spit out white pages. I quickly looked at the manufacturer's website and saw other users complaining about this problem on their support forums. What's the problem? This printer will not print with a black cartridge unless full color cartridges are installed. You can swap in a brand-new black cartridge but if the color cartridges are empty, there is no way to use it like a black-and-white laser printer. You must pay for and maintain a full set of color cartridges to get this printer to keep printing black-and-white only documents. If this "feature" had been advertised on the box, I would gladly have taken my business elsewhere. Instead, I am stuck with a recently-purchased printer and brand new black-ink cartridge that refuses to print unless I buy a full set of color cartridges. Instead of buying an endless supply of color cartridges to get this to print in black-and-white, this printer will go in the garbage while I buy an ink jet from a company that does not resort to malicious design tricks.

I purchased my HP computer with windows already installed on it but the printer I purchased the HP Officejet 6500 all in one printer is not compatible and the printer disc would not download for me so what can I do because the stores should have been warned what was compatible and what wasn’t
